Dr. Samina Zamindar

MS, DO (Ophth), CPQIH (Adv) CATARACT SURGEON & COMPREHENSIVE OPTHALMOLOGIST

Dr. Samina Zamindar is a compassionate and highly respected Ophthalmologist with over 28 years of experience in cataract surgery and comprehensive Ophthalmology. She is the founder and driving force behind Zamindar Microsurgical Eye Centre, one of Bangalore’s leading eye hospitals, known for its commitment to quality, ethics, and accessible eye care.

In 1997, guided by the vision of eliminating avoidable blindness, Dr. Zamindar opened a small one-room clinic in Bengaluru. Today, that humble beginning has grown into a full-fledged multi-specialty eye care centre, offering services in cataract, retina, glaucoma, cornea, pediatric Ophthalmology, and oculoplasty.  

Her approach blends clinical excellence with compassionate care, backed by a deep commitment to systems thinking and safety. Under her leadership, Zamindar Eye Centre became one of India’s first five NABH-accredited Eye Care Organizations (ECOs) a milestone that raised national benchmarks for patient safety and quality in ophthalmology. 

Awards & Recognition

Leadership in Quality and Training

Dr. Zamindar is a certified professional in Quality Implementation in Healthcare (CPQIH) and a registered NABH assessor, guiding hospitals across India and Southeast Asia. She has trained over 300+ eye care professionals through her pioneering initiative, Eye for Quality, and has conducted workshops on patient safety, SOP writing, and infection control, both in India and internationally.

Dr. Zamindar has also collaborated with the Seva Foundation and led training under the Observe, Understand & Change (OUC) program,  improving patient safety systems in Nepal, Cambodia, and India. In 2021, she co-developed a starter kit of SOPs for infection control in eye hospitals, now used across multiple countries.

    Championing Community Eye Care

    Through the Dr. Zamindars Eye Foundation, she continues to serve the underserved, with school eye screenings, community outreach, and donor-supported treatments under the Vision for All program. Her unwavering belief: “When you give someone back their sight, you give them back their life.

    Global and National Impact

    Dr. Zamindar’s training and mentoring extend globally:

  • Facilitated patient safety workshops in Nepal annually since 2020
  • Led workshops at Al Nahdha Hospital, Oman (2019)
  • Trained government doctors under Karnataka Health Department's sponsored Eye for Quality programs
  • Speaker & faculty for CAHO, AIOS, CPQIH, and national ophthalmic seminars
  • Played a key role in crafting minimum safety standards and adverse event documentation for eye hospitals in India, Nepal, and Cambodia
