The Journey of Dr. Zamindar's Eye Foundation
Dr. Zamindar’s Eye Foundation is a not–for–profit organization founded by leading ophthalmologist Dr. Samina Zamindar, with a singular purpose: to eliminate avoidable blindness and ensure quality eye care reaches those who need it most. Guided by the belief that sight is a fundamental right, the Foundation works across underserved communities to restore vision – and with it, dignity, independence, and opportunity.To deepen our community impact, the Jai Bharat Nagar Centre has now evolved into a full–time community eye care facility, offering free and affordable services every day.
The journey of Dr. Zamindar’s Eye Foundation began in 1997 with a small act of service – free Thursday eye screenings at our Jai Bharat Nagar Centre. Since then, more than 11,000 people have benefited from this ongoing initiative.In 2024, we extended this mission to children through the Zamindar’s Children Eye Care Centre at HRBR Layout. This centre continues the Thursday tradition and has screened more than 1,900 children so far.
At the heart of this mission is our Vision for All initiative, which provides free and subsidized eye screenings, treatments, and surgeries in low–income neighbourhoods, schools, anganwadis, and senior homes – ensuring early detection and complete care. This work is driven by a team of dedicated ophthalmologists, optometrists, and eye health workers who combine medical excellence with compassion and community service.
